Sebastien Loeb's target of 12 out of 12 victories in the season still seems a possibility as he wins the rally from Ford's Mikko Hirvonen and Citroen number 2 driver Dani Sordo. This rally also saw the return of double world champion Marcus Gronholm. However, he rolled on the opening stage of day 2 from 2nd place which proved terminal.
