The 2010 World Rally Championship Season is the 38th season of the WRC. The season consists of 13 rallies and will begin with the 2010 Swedish Rally. This season, like in Formula 1, sees 10 drivers score points. Here is the new points system, compared with the old system.

Position Number of Points (New System) Number of Points (Old System)
1st 25 pts 10 pts
2nd 18 pts 8 pts
3rd 15 pts 6 pts
4th 12 pts 5 pts
5th 10 pts 4 pts
6th 8 pts 3 pts
7th 6 pts 2 pts
8th 4 pts 1 pt
9th 2 pts 0 pts
10th 1 pt 0 pts

Other Rule ChangesEdit

  • Rallies can run under 2, 3 or 4 days but must finish on a Saturday or a Sunday.
  • Mixing gravel and tarmac surfaces is allowed, either within a stage or the day.
  • There will no longer be a minimum or maximum distance for a stage.
  • The total stage distance for the event has been changed to 300-500 km.
  • Night stages are permitted, but must not form the day's stages.
  • There will be a new championship for the Super 2000 cars, called the SWRC (Super 2000 World Rally Championship.) There will also be a WRC Cup for teams. They must compete in seven rounds, with at least 1 outside of Europe.
  • The WRC will also introduce a ranking system, similar to that in golf or tennis.
  • The SupeRally system, which allows drivers to come back on the stages, will be scrapped. Instead, bonus points will be awarded to the fastest crew from a completed day of a WRC event.
