So Sebastien Loeb has won the first 5 rallies and already looks like he is the 2009 WRC Champion. However, next is Rally d'Italia, a rally where running first on the road is a massive disadvantage. The surface is slippery gravel and sand, making it extremely difficult to control the car. Also, Petter Solberg has mechanical suspension and a much more updated version of the Citroen Xsara. The Ford's of Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala can also play a huge role in the rally, especially with their good road positions on Day 1.

Going into the rally, the drivers championship has been dominated by the Citroen Senior Team. Here are the current standings:

1 Sebastien Loeb 50 pts

2 Dani Sordo 31 pts

3 Mikko Hirvonen 30 pts

4 Henning Solberg 20 pts

5 Petter Solberg 14 pts

6 Matthew Wilson 12 pts

7 Jari-Matti Latvala 9 pts

8 Federico Villagra 9 pts

The Manufacterers' Championship has also been dominated by Citroen. The standings look like this:

1 Total Citroen 82 pts

2 BP Ford 43 pts

3 Stobart VK Ford 37 pts

4 Citroen Junior 13 pts

5 Munchi's Ford 12 pts
