So Loeb leads the championship by 6 points after 2 events. That's how strong he is! However, the main part of the WRC season is set on gravel. This rally is mostly on gravel but there is also tarmac sections. Finding a good setup for this rally is crucial for getting a good result. Day 1 is set on tarmac. Then it moves into the more traditional gravel stages for days 2 and 3. This rally was first run in 2000 and has been known as a car-wrecker with lots of tight corners that could make tyre wear a big issue. The main drivers competing here remain much the same except the return of the Munchi's Ford car, driven by Federico Villagra. The team will run an 8 round programme in 2009. This rally sees both the JWRC (Junior Rally Championship) and the PWRC (Production Cup) fight it out on the stages. The championship before the rally currently looks like this:

1 Sebastien Loeb Citroen C4 20 pts

2 Mikko Hirvonen Ford Focus 14 pts

3 Dani Sordo Citroen C4 12 pts

4 Henning Solberg Ford Focus 10 pts

5 Jari-Matti Latvala Ford Focus 6 pts

=6 Chris Atkinson Citroen C4 4 pts

=6 Matthew Wilson Ford Focus 4 pts

=8 Sebastien Ogier Citroen C4 3 pts

=8 Petter Solberg Citroen Xsara 3 pts

=10 Urmo Aava Ford Focus 1 pt

=10 Khalid-Al Quassimi Ford Focus 1 pt
